Wakefest Wraps Up For A Cause
Atlanta, Georgia - The third stop of the Georgia Wake Series took place this past weekend with the 9th annual Wakefest event in Albany, Georgia. Long known as the largest grassroots event in the state, Wakefest 2017 did not disappoint. The weekend teed off on Friday with a golf tournament for benefit Ellison Olinger, expanding the event to a broader segment of the community. Although rain attempted to interrupt, the festivities would not be deterred, with the participants playing through several downpours to raise money for little Ellison.
Saturday kicked off bright and early with registrants from five different states traveling to Albany to throw their best runs behind WaterSports Centralís MasterCraft XT23. Conditions were top-notch behind the MasterCraft on the newly revamped run, which returned to Chehaw Park and it's sand covered beaches after last yearís flooding. 52 Riders hit the water laying down technical runs for a great cause, under sunny skies, in front of a large crowd on land and a 25-boat flotilla lining the pass. Tour director Brandon Lee said, "I am really happy with the growth we're seeing throughout the GA Wake Series this year. Having over fifty riders travel to Albany from up to 7 hours away was a great show of support for this cause and displays not only the strength of the Georgia Wake Series, but of wakeboarding in the Southeast. I am excited that we are heading to the Valdosta Wake Compound for Stop Four in a week. I know several of the riders left from Wakefest to practice at Valdosta so I am sure we will have some progressive riding and exciting battles."
Wakefest narrowed the point standings across all divisions setting up the second half of the season for close competition and an exciting finish. The intensity will definitely heat up as we return to the park, bringing the Georgia Wake Series to the world-renowned Valdosta Wake Compound for the first time ever. Discounts are available for Series riders looking to attend the weekend and experience all that VWC has to offer.
The Georgia Wake Series is thankful for the continued support and proud to represent WaterSports Central / MasterCraft, Pull Watersports / Tige, Ambush Board Co, Buywake.com, Georgia Wakeboard Lessons, Terminus Wake Park, CWB Board Co., PTM Edge, Oakley, Skip Hill & Associates, Hyperlite, Byerly Boards, and Spect Eyewear!
